Terms of Use (Draft)
HitchBuddy is a matching platform: drivers post trips they are already making, and passengers request a spare seat. The platform does not provide transport services and is not a taxi or private-hire (ride-hailing) service.
Carpooling rules
- Drivers may only share costs such as petrol, tolls and parking. No one may make a profit from carrying passengers. The platform suggests a price based on distance and caps the maximum price.
- Each driver may offer at most 2 carpool trips per day.
- Trips must be within Singapore. Cross-border trips between Singapore and Malaysia are not allowed.
- The pickup point, drop-off point, date and fare must be agreed through the platform before the trip.
- Only private cars registered to an individual may be used.
Fees
The platform is free for drivers and passengers and is funded by ads. Drivers and passengers settle the fare between themselves, in cash or by PayNow and the like. The platform does not handle any payment.
Safety and account suspension
The platform does not run background checks on drivers or passengers. Users can review each other after a trip. If a bad review is manually checked and found to be true, the platform may suspend the account and cancel its upcoming trips and bookings.
Responsibility
Trips are arranged and carried out by drivers and passengers themselves. Drivers should check for themselves whether their car insurance covers carrying carpool passengers.
